Coffee With Denham

August 15, 2014 • AmsterdamFood and DrinkStyleTravel

i’ve always really liked dutch brand DENHAM. a couple of years ago i was fortunate enough to take a behind-the-scenes tour of their headquarters (a bit further down the prinsengracht) and interview their head designer. they have a really cool way of looking at fashion and denim – always rethinking denim heritage to modern classics with a twist.

so i already knew i love their designs, but i had no clue they were into coffee as well. around easter, i noticed a little denham boutique right down our street that i hadn’t seen before. it turned out to be denham’s showcase, service and coffee shop – strategically positioned to point shoppers and tourists the way to the denham men’s and women’s stores close-by.

we popped in for an espresso and a quick look around, and i fell hard for their ‘double dutch’ collaboration with amsterdam clothing boutique TENUE DE NIMES – a grey sweatshirt with a neat little scissor and stitch symbols print. if you have a denham jeans that needs repairing, this is also where you could have it fixed by one of the guys sitting behind the sewing machines in the shop window.

last week we decided to take a quick trip to amsterdam – stay at the apartment of my husband’s aunt on the prinsengracht, relax in the numerous little coffee bars we love so much and discover some restaurants we’d been dying to try. we ended up cutting our trip short, but we still spent two amazing days in town, lazying around. i will be sharing more about two discoveries next week – the denham coffee bar and the marie stella maris boutique. but for now i wanted to show you these snapshots and direct you to some of our favorite hangouts, in case you’re planning a trip to amsterdam yourself some time soon.

1 the amazing apartment of my husband’s aunt, unfortunately not for rent. // 2 the crazy beautiful environment of vegetable restaurant DE KAS. take your apéritif in their gorgeous garden, have dinner in their greenhouse. // 3 the MARIE STELLA MARIS boutique and cafe is my favorite new addition to amsterdam, hands down. // 4 i’m in love with my DANIEL WELLINGTON watch, kindly gifted to me by the brand. if you want to order your own with a 15% discount, use the code ‘stephaniesdw’ in their webshop before august 31. // 5 brand new restaurant NACIONAL reminded us of a french bistro, the way it would be designed and run in new york. needless to say, we liked it. // 6 the aeropress coffee at HEADFIRST tastes just as good as their espresso. // 7 another new discovery, though it’s not exactly new – the DENHAM coffee bar. // 8 the rooftop terrace of REM EILAND is not in the city center, but well worth the detour (rent a bike!)
